To take a linking to someone – take a shine to sb, develop a fondness for somebody, start liking someone 

 Trunk- the long, flexible cylindrical nasal appendage of the elephant 

Mourning- a period of sorrow for one’s death, the state of being sade, depressed and miserable 

 Allegiance- devotion or loyalty to some person, group or cause 

 Conjecture – an opinion or theory so formed or expressed; guess ; speculation

Invest in social change

TED :)

  • COHORT- a group or comany.
A group of students have created a cohort that organizes school ceremonies.
A cohort of citizens is trying to prepare aid for poor in my city.

  • COMPELLING- tending to compel, overpowering 
I would tell you a story which I have heard recently- It was really compelling.
A compelling personality is a person which you want to know better, because she/he is so interesting

  •  HURDLE- a difficult problem to be overcome
My friends are trying to overcome their hurdle which is connected with money.
If people have to overcome some hurdles in their life, they treat with respect what they have.

  • ENTREPRENEUR- a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risks
If you want to be perfect enterpreneur you have to be rigour, precise and hard-working.
People who are great enterpreneur have certain features which allow them to take risks and lead businesses.

  •  TACKLE  A PROBLEM- solve a problem.
I always want to help my friends to tackle their problems but sometimes I have no foggies idea what to do.
You should never give up- there is always a way to tackle your problem.

FORSAKE

MAXIMIZIE
to make sth as great in amount, size, importance as possible

*Great businesses keep maximizing income all the time.
*Nowadays, very often people is trying to maximizie their salaries


OUTLIER
a fact, figure, piece of data etc. that is very different from all others in a set and doesn't seem to fit the same pattern
*There are always a few outliers when you examine a group.
*Malcolm Gladwell's story "OUTLIERS" is about extremely successful people, a story that focuses on intelligence and ambition.


TAKE THE HELM
to take a control of a company or organization

*John decided to take the helm of a ECO-food company. By the way, he has changed his bad habits!
*It's a great responsibility when you decide to take the helm.


VISCERAL
based on deep feeling and emotional reactions rather than on reason or thought
*Introverts rarely show their visceral feelings.
*I keep for myself my visceral emotions.

What doctor can learn from each other?

  • REIMBURSE- to pay back money to someone who has spent it for you or lost it because of you
My friend reimbursed me for my new dress that she had destroyed on the party!
My boss reimbursed me for cost that I had beared.

  • FRAIL- weak or unhealthy, or easily damaged, broken or harmed
Yesterday I met a cat on my way home, it was frail and hungry, so I take it with me. Now I have a cat, eventually!
My grandfather during his illness was really frail, but fortunatelly he recovered.

  • VASTLY- very much
He has vastly improved his language skills during last years.
Asian culture is vastly different than European.

  • THRIVE- to grow, develop, or to be successful
His firm thrived during last decades. He is such a rich man.
My friend wants to thrive- but she doesn't have the foggiest idea how!

  • COST-CUTTING- actions taken to reduce the amount that is spent on a service or within an organization
The government is taking cost-cutting actions,but they shouldn't safe money on healthcare.
Plenty of businesses is trying to take cost-cutting actions and at the same time increase of prices to be richer.

Older people are happier

*life expectancy- is the expected, in the statistical sense, number of years of life remaining at a given age.

* Life expectancy in Poland is 76 years... Our country is on the 47th place on the World Life Expectancy ranking.
*Life expectancy for men 76 years, and for women 80years.

*fertility rate- avarage number of children that would be born to a woman over her lifetime.

*Fertility rate decreased over last decades in Europe.
*Total fertility rate in Poland is 1.31 children born/woman. Now, the most popular family model is 2+1.

*disavow- to say that you know nothing about sth, or that you have no connection with sth.

*He is trying to disavow the truth that was revealed about him. But nobody is gonna believe him after that.
*Even though she shouldn't be proud of her past- she doesn't disavow it.

*nebulous- not clear and having no form

*My friend has a few nebulous ideas about her future job, but she doesn't know what exactly it is going to be.
*At the beginning it's enough to have only a nebulous idea. Than you can form it.

*complacency- a feeling of calm satisfaction with your own abilities or situation that prevents you from trying harder.

*There is no place for complacency when a person wants to succeed - he/she should want more and more from life!
*A feeling of complacency makes you happier- you are satisfied with your life.

how to buy happiness?

To extort- to get something by force or threats, or with difficulty
~He was extorted by a police officer to tell the whole truth.
~That strange man was trying to extort money from his wife!

Affluent- having a lot of money or owning a lot of things

~My affluent neighbors have a huge beautiful mansion.
~It’s not a truth that affluent people are happier than poor people.

Pro social (behavior)- voluntary behavior intended to benefit another.

~Voluntary work is an example of pro social behavior.
~Pro- social behavior is an extremely important thing when it comes to society as a whole.

To bug- to annoy

~I never intend to bug someone but sometimes I do, unintentionally of course!
~My alarm clock keeps bugging me every morning!

Correlated- If two or more facts, numbers, etc. correlate or are correlated, there is a relationship between them

~People in society correlate with each other even if they are not aware of that.
~A strict correlation between members of a family is a key to success and happiness.
